When the code does not explain it in plain English, the Guide does. This Guide has been written to explain the tough stuff, and it's done it in only 80 pages (this is not another 500 page book you have to wade through)
It's a fact, anybody can look up the minimum strainer opening size for a shower drain, but calculating the pressure loss of 376 feet of 1" water pipe @ 5 feet per second could prove challenging to many people. This is when the Guide kicks in.
When installing a gas water heater with 17 feet of vent, do you select 15 foot or 20 foot on the vent sizing charts?
Because many states are now adding business questions to their Plumbing exams, we have included a section on business practices and math. It is written in a language, we in the trade understand.
A test question on business would likely be: "If you purchase a fixture for $1000 and wish to make 30% profit; what would your selling price be"? Hint: the answer is not $1300. Scroll to the bottom for answer.
Eliminate weeks of study time. If your state has adopted the International Codes (see map above) this guide is priceless. Other books offer only practice questions. This book teaches you how and why, so when you enter the exam room you are prepared and confident.

| Thanks John,
The Guide really explained the concept of fixture units and formulas. The things I missed when I took the test (prior to this course), all came out in the course. I'm looking forward to taking the plumbing test and passing it. Jon Spahr
This course is extremely informative and explained the business portion to where I could understand it. Explained vent sizing to where it is just plain simple. Sample test alone, makes the course worth the cost. Thanks, Langston Denny
John's Guide was worth every penny! He goes in depth in eachcode book, pretty much like one-on-one. I learned a lot more from his book than any class I took. Thanks John, Tim Sanders

I bought your book little over a month ago, the last 10 pages alone are worth the cost of the course. I was so lost in the business part until I got this book. The whole book has helped me. Just wanted to say thanks for your help...
Again, thank you
Ron

"If you don't do it now, what will you be doing five years from now?"
Students who have used this guide book actually have a higher passing rate than students who take a classroom course. WHY? Because people who READ the material retain much more than people whom are TOLD the material, and the Guide is always next to them for reference or as a last minute refresher.

Answer to profit question: $1428.57. In the accounting world, profit is expressed as a percent of the selling price not the cost. If you were to sell the fixture for $1300 the sales price would erroneously have been calculated as a percentage of the cost ($1000) not the selling price. If you insist on selling the fixture for $1300 and think you made 30% on the sale, the fact is, you only made 23%. Why? Your cost is $1000, your profit is $300 ($1300-$1000), $300 is 23% of the $1300 sale ($300/$1300). A full explanation can be found in our Guide.
